Silver Nasapp   The Eurecat technology centre is a new Silver Sponsor of the 9th IWA Odours & VOCs/Air Emissions Conference, which will take place on 26-27 October this year in Bilbao, where the NasApp service will be presented. NasApp consists of a web manager and pioneering collaborative application that collects data from citizens to generate odour maps to help tackle and resolve odour pollution episodes. Visitors will be able to see how NasApp works and how it can be used at the Eurecat stand.

   Eurecat provides companies with differential technology and advanced knowledge to respond to their innovation needs, with the aim of boosting their competitiveness and contributing to the change towards a more efficient and sustainable production model. To this end, it covers the digital, industrial, biotechnology and sustainability areas, from which it provides services to nearly 2,000 companies.

   Eurecat presents NasApp, a pioneering application to help tackle odour pollution through citizen participation, at the IWA 2021 Odours & VOCs / AIR EMISSIONS Conference. NasApp is "a multi-layered data platform that connects empirical odour perceptions with a real-time warning system of unwanted episodes in inhabited areas", explains Isabel de Lucas, Service Manger of NasApp, who emphasises that the application "is as useful for citizens as it is for odour-generating agents who need a reliable indicator to know the magnitude and impact of their impact".

NasApp, which is used in municipalities across Spain and is being used to identify odour pollution problems in Chile, Peru and Colombia, makes it possible to monitor complaints and observations due to odour episodes. Once verified and verified, NasApp transforms them into objective information by modelling orography and wind currents to monitor and characterise odour episodes and determine their origin using Big Data techniques.

   In this way, the application makes it possible to complement and combine a history of records made by citizens with studies of air backtrajectories and use this data to determine the origin of odour episodes and confirm or rule out the effectiveness of the corrective measures proposed to mitigate the nuisance.
